copies. This artist's book is formatted like a broadsheet newspaper and was published in conjunction
with Polke's participation in XIII Bienal de São Paulo, in 1975. Polke was West
Germany’s representative to the Biennial and was awarded the its grand prize for his
work, which included this publication as part of a mixed media series of paintings and prints entitled Day by Day. The series drew upon imagery from German mass media, especially photos that were politically charged, risque, or which evoked popular notions of “the primitive.” Polke combines it all into a kaleidoscopic swirl of heavily manipulated and overprinted imagery. It is the collective consciousness portrayed as a sickly and overheated delirium.
