Elanore looked at the iron bars in front of her. In either of her lives, she’d never been sentenced for any crime, yet here she was. She flicked the pink caterpillar from her lips and sighed.
“I told you that your plan wouldn’t work,” Naela said. “Not only that, but those idiots labeled me as a beastman.”
“Hey, look around us. My plan worked perfectly. We’re inside the city, are we not?”
Elanore watched the pink caterpillar that once served as her fake mustache crawl away from her. How did her voice acting skills not pay off? The moment she spoke in a deeper voice, the guardsman referred to her as madame. What’s more, her perfectly made horses were considered a fake!
The vampire summoned Pot again from her inventory, and he looked around the room.
“I take it that your plan didn’t work, mistress?”
“Why does everyone keep saying that? Of course, the plan worked. I wanted to get us inside the city, and here we are.” The vampire looked around the room. For a cell it was much nicer than she’d imagined it would be. There were two comfy beds for her and her wyvern. Moreover, the room had nice carpeting covering the floor. “Besides...they put us in such a nice place and gave us a warm welcome.”
The wyvern chuckled. “Who knew that caterpillar was poisonous? That’s what made you the most suspicious.”
Elanore shrugged. “I had no way of knowing unless I inspected it, but I didn’t imagine that it would be poisonous.”
She watched it again, observing it crawl towards the exit of the cell. The vampire rushed to grab it. “I suppose I can store it away in my inventory.”
Elanore did exactly that and stowed the live creature away.
“What shall we do now, mistress?” Pot asked.
“Well, we are in the city, so all we have to do now is escape the prison. Once we get out, we can find a place that sells clothing for our wyvern.”
Naela shook her head. “The guard told us to wait for his superior. What happens when that guy learns we left?”
“Well, does it even matter? It’s not like they can really do anything. We can slip out of here, find a place that sells clothing, and then look around the city while we’re here. If someone finds us, we have plausible deniability on our side. It’s not like they took a picture of us.”
Elanore put her hands on two of the pristine cell bars. “[Transmutation – Powder].”
The pieces of iron turned into fine dust and fell on the floor, staining the white carpet black. Well, it’s not my fault they decided to capture the wrong person. If they’d have just let me in, their carpet would not be looking like someone put out a bunch of cigarettes on it.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“Perfect, now the two of you should follow me.”
Elanore peaked around both corners into the hallway. Off to the left, there was a stained glass window, depicting a heavenly woman. The hallway ended there, and beneath it there was a small shrine with flowers. Off to the right, the hallway continued.
Along the wall there were paintings of scenery. There were forests or river basins.
“It looks like we can only go that way.”
Elanore gestured with her hands, and the two followed her into the hall. It didn’t take them long to find adjoining rooms. There was another cell like the one they’d exited on the right, and on the other side there was a lion colored wooden door.
The vampire heard the sound of voices in that room if she focused on it.
“Captain, I am telling you that woman is dangerous. She had a [Poisonous Pink Caterpillar] on her bare skin, and it did nothing. Normally, if someone did that they’d show signs of poisoning. Moreover, there were the fangs.”
A sigh exited the other man’s throat. “I already told you, Orlon. Housing her here will be more trouble than it’s worth. She seems like one of those trouble making noble women. Do you really want to get involved? The only thing we can do is notify those in connection to the king. This is above our pay grade.”
“So you intend to release her?”
“Yes.”
Elanore frowned and walked away from the door, continuing down the hall. Eventually, she reached steps going down to the ground floor. People moved about at the bottom of the church like building, but none of them paid any mind to Elanore. They continued their duties of cleaning or tending to plants.
She reached the outside and took in the city in the light. The most jarring thing she saw was the towering white structure of the castle that wasn’t far away. It stood in contrast to the other stone buildings, and the windows staining it depicted the same figure from the church. Or they depicted the lion mammoth Elanore saw before.
Instead of heading in that direction, she moved towards the central part of the city, eventually reaching a square with a mammoth fountain. Water poured into its basin, and many people gathered around to watch it.
The buildings here were quaint. Some of them had windows, and some of them didn’t. Yet all of them had gardens out front.
People who walked by appeared in high spirits. They were dressed in better clothing than Elanore imagined. Many of them had fine cotton clothes with brown, orange, or black as the common colors.
Many couples walked by our sat on benches holding hands. The vampire stared at them with narrowed eyes.
Bleh, it seems that even in another world the love sickness has taken hold. They even have a flower shop here.
Pot followed her gaze towards the shop. “Would my mistress like a bouquet of flowers?”
“No way!” Her face reddened, and she pointed to the shop next to it. “That one is the one holding my interest.” Peering through the window, she saw several different kinds of clothing. She looked at her scale-covered friend and grinned. “It’s about time we get you some clothes.”

Captain Henrick looked at the ground where a black stain was and sighed.
Orlon stared down at the stain with his captain and patted Henrick on the shoulder. “I told you, old man. Do you believe me now?”
“This is going to be a pain in my ass, you know? But since you are here with me, it will be a pain in both of our asses.” The captain smiled. “After all, now I have you to send on a little errand.”
Orlon swallowed nervously. “Should we put the guardsmen on high alert?”
Henrick shook his head. “Don’t be a fool. I don’t really believe this woman has horrible intentions. Look, she is capable of something like this, yet she hasn’t done anything to us at all. There was no retribution for you teleporting her here and locking her up either.”
“That’s the strangest part. Those two didn’t have any reaction to being teleported.”
Captain Henrick nodded. “We will patiently observe the situation and wait for orders from the higher ups.”
“What you really mean is you will do nothing, and I will end up saddled with all of the work again...”
