LOG-136.
Part of me understood that there were technically human beings on this station. Domesticated ones that had never seen the outside of their enclosure, yes, but still.
The rest acknowledged the point that there was nothing I could do about that fact right now, and that there were greater things at stake at the moment, hence why I was currently following behind Yellow Diamond at a hurried pace, even as contingents of soldiers (both local and not) spread throughout the hallways behind us.
Eventually of course, we reached whatever destination the matriarch had in mind, an enormous doorway drawing my eye as Yellow strode through with a frown.
I paused, exchanging glances with the two Citrines that had been hot on my own heels before waving them down. They could wait outside for now, and if needed, they'd sprint in at a moment's notice, blades drawn.
Taking an unnecessary breath, I squared my shoulders and calmly walked inside, the sight of a grand meeting chamber of some kind greeting me.
And within it, somehow managing to look small despite being the size of a building, was Blue Diamond. Crumpled in a throne (one of many on this station, damned rulers loved the things) with her Pearl softly humming from her position atop the larger Gem's shoulder.
While Blue looked up to stare at her golden counterpart, the servant instead looked to me, eyes obscured by her hair but the tilt of her head betraying a certain curiosity as I settled at the other end of the enormous room, arms clasped behind my back and nose raised ever so slightly.
"Blue."
"Yellow."
As a long silence passed between the two Diamonds, my fellow Pearl hesitantly slid off of her owner's shoulder, managing a graceful landing on the ground before stepping away from the throne.
"I…I'm glad you've finally elected to visit. I've been meaning to talk-"
"As have I, Blue. I've made a decision."
There was perhaps an aborted attempt at a greeting, judging by the twitching of the lithe Gem's hands. Maybe even a request for information, but my counterpart was quickly distracted by the dangerous energy emanating from Yellow's entire lightform, a slight crackle erupting here and there.
"Yellow? W-What decision? Please, can we just talk-"
I kept my hands firmly behind my back and maintained a respectful distance as one Diamond glared down at another, features twisted in irritation.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
"Effective immediately, I am taking direct command of all Blue Court Gems, assets and territories. Until such a time has been found in which you are fit to rule once more, I will manage your Court for you."
There was a moment of pure, unblemished shock as Blue gaped at Yellow, the former's mouth moving but failing to produce any noise, which only seemed to reinvigorate the latter in her decision.
"You have been given time. You have been given countless chances. And yet you still mourn! You still refuse to move on! And worst of all, you still continue to hinder me-"
Abruptly, everything felt like it was underwater, a suffocating pressure all around me that damn near drove me to my knees with its presence. Across the chamber, I could see tears running down my fellow Pearl's cheeks, and I knew for a fact if I had brought up my hands to inspect my own face, I'd find much the same.
"I am a Diamond! You can't do this to me!"
The urge to let out a choking sob came, and was promptly forced back down as I locked my mask into place, allowing the tears to flow freely but not letting a single other expression to cross my features, something which seemed to perturb my counterpart considering she didn't seem to know whether she wanted to step away from the quarrelling Diamonds, or keep her distance from me.
"Stop! Turn your power off! I am done playing these games! You're grounded Blue! Now you'll come with me, and we will initiate a calm, orderly transfer of authority until you can-"
I couldn't quite be sure what started it. Maybe Yellow had made too aggressive a motion, stomping towards Blue and reaching forward to grab at her shoulder. Perhaps Blue herself was just caught in the throes of grief, panic, or whatever else was afflicting her.
"You're not LISTENING TO ME!"
But as one Diamond moved to grasp the other, an azure arm slapped its golden mirror aside, a yell filling and shaking the chamber.
The other Pearl whimpered. I repressed a grin and carefully held my balance, watching Yellow process that she had just been struck.
Blue's angered expression turned sorrowful in an instant, her lips wobbling even as Yellow's features turned horrifically cold.
"Y-Yellow. I didn't-I didn't mean to-"
"Enough."
To be honest, even I had to take a step back at the tone of voice the Diamond had taken on.
"...Yellow?"
Slowly, I began to back away even further, my fellow Pearl glancing in my direction for a moment before beginning to quietly make her way towards me, and presumably the exit. Not that I could blame her, considering the increased electricity beginning to visibly dance across Yellow's lightform.
"If you can't be reasoned with, then that leaves me only one option. I'm sorry Blue, but this is for the best, for all of us."
One second, a tense standoff made it feel as if the chamber was frozen in anticipation. Then a lightning cloaked fist was slamming into a Diamond's cheek, her shocked expression only serving to accentuate the sheer suddenness of the violent act-
I was startled out of my steady retreat out of the chamber by a thin form all but blurring past me, prompting me to whip my head around and watch as my fellow Pearl tore past the two Citrines, both soldiers turning to glance at me as I lifted a hand and pointed after the fleeing Gem.
"Seize her!"
Necessary? Maybe, maybe not. But the unknown factor of a rogue servant potentially trying to call for help was one I couldn't tolerate, so I glared after the blue figure's back as she desperately turned a corner, my two guards racing just behind her with calls to stop and blades clasped in their hands.
"YELLOW! STOP!"
Then what felt like it must have been the entire station shaking got me moving further away from the chamber as well, making distance from the incredibly loud, incredibly angry voices echoing within, each word interspersed with the roar of colliding energies.
"JUST SHUT UP! YOU'RE MAKING ME DO THIS!
Flinching back slightly as a violent burst of golden electricity arced out of the chamber and promptly cored through one of the walls, exposing its interior makeup, I allowed my legs to begin carrying me…somewhere.
Anywhere was better than ground zero of a fight between two godlings, after all.
