The Earl’s pronouncement set off notifications for everyone that had participated. Including myself. I checked the one title Monster Wave Results.
You have survived your first Monster Wave and it was a doozy. You defeated the Boss Ghoul Lord, the Skeleton King, and numerous minions of each. You assisted in the killing of the Litch and his Revenants. You also were responsible for the Demon Lord Zemoculus quitting the field of battle without fighting. Finally, you were a major contributor to the battle strategy. All these accomplishments were done when you were classless and level one. Everything has been taken into account for your rewards.
You have gained 39 levels.
You are now level 40, with 80 skill points and 80 skill levels to allot.
You have received 390 gold, 20 major healing potions, 12 resurrection scrolls, a tome of Chained Lightening, a tome of Meteor, and Legendary Mace of Destruction.
For defeating an opponent 40 level above you, you have received the title ‘Fight the Power’.
Don’t expect such generosity going forward.
Generosity it truly was. The rewards were a lot. Probably more than I deserved.
I called up my short status screen:
Name: Trevor Ervine Johns
Race: Human
Class: Champion of Life
Level: 40
There it was. My class and my level. Both were firmly established. I truly did not expect to gain so many levels. Though, the only benefit of levels was skill and skill level points, because my stats were already maxed out. It was still a lot of levels.
With my soul healed, I could now move on without worrying about it being corrupted. Like bones, once broken and healed, it would be stronger than before and it felt stronger. This could open a lot of options for me, but thinking about that would come later.
Everyone around was celebrating, and somehow barrels of ale found their way to the gate. I suspect Ruberm to be behind the ale barrels. Today had now turned from a battle into a party, and someone handed me a mug. I took a deep drink, glad to have survived. Over the next hour many people, nobles and adventurers, came by to thank me for my assistance and to praise the magical healers. After an hour, I slowly made my way to the edge of the party. It was time for me to go home, but I didn’t want to offend anyone, so I made sure to talk with people as I made my way out. At the edge, I quietly slipped away and went home.

Word travels fast, because my house was having a party. Everyone was celebrating the end of the wave. As soon as I saw Gabriel, I declared today a holiday. They assumed it was because of the victory over the monster wave, but it was really because I no longer had to worry about my soul. getting corrupted. I wanted to celebrate both my healed soul and my new class. Both were milestones in my journey. So, a party was just the thing.
I headed upstairs to my bed chamber. I looked around and saw my healer clothes laid out for me. I slowly removed my armor. With each piece I left the warrior behind and embraced my life as a healer. The Marine would always be inside me, but now he could rest. Letting go of the Marine was hard. Harder than you can imagine, but I did it. I don’t know exactly how to describe it. I am the Marine, and the Marine is me, but I am also the Healer. The Marine is needed in times of war and fighting, but no so much during peace times. He must always be ready to come to the front, but during peace, I want to be the healer.
After taking off all the armor and weapons, I cast Cleanse on myself and them. I carefully folder and put away the armor. I knew I would need it again, but for now it was going into a respectful storage. The weapons, those I put in my Inventory. They would always be with me and unfortunately needed in this world. I then got dressed, not in my healer clothes but in less formal and more relaxed clothing. After all today was a holiday. I decided to be in the holiday spirit.
I went downstairs and joined in the jubilation. Somehow in the little time I was gone, Gabriel had managed to get a band to come and set up in the garden. Ramram had gone to the other houses in the neighborhood and invited them and their household to come join the party. My house was never this full, and I loved it. Everyone wanted to talk about small stuff and gossip. Nobody asked me about the battles, for which I would be eternally grateful.
Where there was music and young women, there was dancing. I didn’t know any of the local dances, but apparently everyone else did. I watched from the sidelines as your ladies and men whirled and twirled around and around. The footwork was amazingly complicated but no one missed a step. It was a wonderful thing to observe. Gabriel and Fabia joined me in watching. Fabia noted that Ramram was quite a good dancer.
Chef had made a lot of finger food and put it on stands throughout the dining room and garden area. Once she thought there was enough, she also joined the party. Her helpers right behind her.
The party lasted until sundown. Then the neighbors left. Everyone had had a good time, and I met some neighbors that I hadn’t known. The party was less rowdy than what was happening in other parts of Forest Glen, but I wasn’t looking for that in my house. Tomorrow the world would get back to normal, but tonight was for merriment and to just enjoy being alive.
I probably drank too much. Not enough to get stumbling drunk, but maybe enough to slur a few words every now and then. When I did realize I drank too much, I headed off to bed.
When I got into the bed, I fell into it fully dressed. Between the ale, the party, and my tiredness, my stress over the last few days was completely gone. What a wonderful way to end the day was my last thought before sleep took me.
