43. Azure is just a disgusting thug.

It was now Tuesday and I had gained a new feeling of disgust and confusion at my revelation the day before. I had finally found a deeper working to my power, and it made me feel unconfident. However it also made me entirely sure that Johnny deserved to go to hell.

When I woke up in the morning I had to make a phone call.

“This is Azure? Right?” Jane's voice asked from the other side of the phone.

  “Yes, Jane I-”

“How are you? What happened to you? Are you okay?” She interrupted with a flurry of questions that were too quick to answer.

“I will explain everything later. I have something I need to do.” I said coldly.

“Please tell me what is going on. What do you need to do?” She asked.

“You will know everything eventually, but right now I need your help with something.” I replied seriously. Knowing would likely only harm her or put her in some extraneous situation.

“You want me to hold the girls together till you're done, right?” She replied almost immediately, showing off her intellect.

“That’s right, It might already seem like I have abandoned them, and I don’t want them to go through that.” I said truthfully.

“You do know how hard it is to do what you ask?” She said completely seriously.

“Yeah, but I am also sure I can trust you with this.” I answered.

“Fine, but you owe me three.” She said.

“Three!? Okay.” I said a bit surprised.

I hung up the call and continued with my morning. Ever since my release the places around me, had a feeling of freshness and awe.

I tried to listen more to those feelings, and it felt a little less hopeless than before.

I walked to school, thinking about the previous day's revelations about my power.

When I walked through the gates of the school I was immediately blocked.

  It was Jane.

I had completely forgotten that she went to my school. How could I make such a mistake? I asked myself.

I was starting to feel stupid, however the mistake was now in the past.

“It seemed like you really forgot.” Jane said humorously.

“Don’t think that you can act all dark and mysterious, and disappear on me.” She said, “Disappear to school that is.” She said before laughing.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

A little embarrassment washed over me.

“I was completely serious in what I said.” I replied. “Even if you can see me, getting close right now would only be bad for you.”

“Aren’t you being kind of stupid right now?” She had a change of aura. It was now more serious and doubtful.

“How so?” I asked in response.

“Did you never think that getting involved with the four of us would be bad for you?” She asked.

“What does that have to do with any of this?” I asked.

“You are willing to help us despite the horrible, but you think that we shouldn’t help you the second it looks sour?” I could tell her voice was slowly getting more desperate.

“That was my choice, you don’t have to help me just because I did the same for you.” I said, and remembered more depressing thoughts. ‘You are my friend, but I am not yours.’ Expecting something in return was wrong. I could not push my own problems onto others.

“You are wrong! I want to help, we all want to help you. It doesn’t matter with what, but none of us want you to go through it alone.” She said and her voice was getting slightly angry.

“It really is better if you stay out of this.” I replied.

  “But…”

“You would only hold me back.” I added.

  “Really?” she asked doubtfully.

“Yes.” I lied. I really wanted their help, but Johnny was too dangerous. I could be alone for a little longer for their sake.

I walked away from the school gates, only a couple confused eyes on me.

I always had the option to do something evil. In fact I had countless opportunities to use others for my benefit. However, I just could not do it. Even if it meant failure or something even worse, I would not sacrifice the people important to me.

I continued to my desk, and overheard a conversation.

“Why do you think Azure did that?” a girl’s voice asked.

“Did what?” an unknowing boy asked

“Stopped Roger and threatened him yesterday.” The girl said obviously.

“What do you think George?” the boy asked.

“I don’t know why. Azure is just a disgusting thug, why would I even try to find out his intentions?” This voice was of the nerd boy from the previous day. The one who I had saved from bullying.

  “STOP!” Kaede’s voice said loudly.

  Everybody focused on her.

“Why do you say such bad things about Azure? He saved you from the bully, didn’t he?” Kaede said desperately.

Before I had the chance to speak the boy replied.

“Even if he did, was he really trying to save me? Or was he just doing something bad to Roger? I won’t consider threatening somebody, even if he was mean, a good thing.” He replied angrily.

“None of you really know what Azure is like. You have never seen the real him.” Kaede said, again desperate.

“Kaede, it’s okay. You can stop.” I replied.

  “But…” She trailed off.

“You don’t have to listen to fools.” I added. Kaede walked over to my desk as people continued to gossip. Kaede ended up sitting in a chair next to me, our arms inches apart.

“Why would he treat you like this, you stopped the person bullying him right?” Kaede asked, confused by the situation.

“He thinks it’s all my fault in the first place.” I responded.

“But, how? You didn’t have anything to do with the bullying.” Kaede said desperately.

“That would be wrong, Kaede. Before all the attention was on me, but after I was arrested people started turning on each other. And now that he isn’t being bullied anymore he wants to use me to gain popularity in the class.” I explained casually.

“That’s horrible. It was horrible in the first place what they did to you.” Kaede stated sadly.

“That’s just how these things go. In the first place, part of my intentions was for me to take the blame.” I added on. Kaede’s eyes grew as she came to a revelation.

“Doesn’t that mean that the reason for all your actions so far has been to stop this from happening. You suffered for that?” She asked hesitantly.
