Chapter One: Revenge
D City.
Xia Wenjie stood in the dark and dirty alley, his eyes fixed intently on the magnificent Great Tang Dynasty Hotel across the street.
The Datang Imperial Hotel is the second five-star hotel in D City, and it can be considered a well-known old-brand hotel. It has 42 floors, with a large and majestic facade, mainly in golden tones, grand and atmospheric, just like an ancient imperial palace.
However, the prosperity of the Datang Imperial Hotel apparently did not extend to the small alley across from it.
The alley is long and narrow, dark and damp inside, with dirty water flowing on the ground, garbage everywhere, and a nauseating stench of rot filling the air.
Xia Wenjie, who was in the midst of it all, seemed to be completely unfazed. His attention was focused on the entrance of the hotel across the street.
。
It's already past midnight and he is waiting for someone here, a man nicknamed Jin Er, who is also a notorious big shot in this area.
Xia Wenjie was just a freshman in high school, while Jin Er was a notorious local hooligan. They were two people who should have had nothing to do with each other, but now hatred has brought them together.
Thinking of his childhood playmates and good friends who died at the hands of Jin Er, Xia Wenjie's eyes shot out a fierce light, and his hand also unconsciously reached into the slanted backpack.
Inside was a knife he had bought after school, a watermelon knife.
He knew that Jin Er was now in the Datang Imperial Hotel, with not many followers around him. This was his best chance to avenge his brother, and possibly his only one.
He can't be certain whether he will succeed or not, but one thing is for sure: the living must do something for the dead.
He had been waiting here for more than four hours, but he didn't feel tired at all, or rather, his tense mood and high concentration of spirit made him unable to feel fatigue.
At half past twelve in the morning, there were very few vehicles and pedestrians on the street. Even at the Datang Huangchao Hotel, which was bustling with cars during the day, it had already started to feel deserted.
At this moment, a group of people walked out of the hotel's revolving glass door, three men and one woman. The woman was dressed in a seductive and cool manner, with heavy makeup and wearing a black sequined vest, under which was a mini skirt that was short to the point of being almost invisible.
Those three men were all robust, the one in the middle looked to be around thirty years old, not very tall, about 1.6 meters, and compared to the charming woman next to him, he was half a head shorter, but his build was sturdy enough, his exposed arms thicker than the woman's calves, looking up, a shiny bald head stood out, short and thick eyebrows, like two caterpillars crawling on his face, below that a pair of small eyes, a collapsed nose, a lion-like mouth, when walking, the horizontal muscles on his face twitched.
Out of the hotel gate, the four people walked to the side of the street with laughter and chatter. A man smiled and said: "Second brother, wait here for a while, I'll go get the car."
"Go away! Go away!" The bald man waved his hand impatiently, his attention focused on the woman beside him.
Seeing them, Xia Wenjie from the opposite alley immediately clenched his fists, and his breathing became heavier.
He slowly narrowed his eyes, didn't leave immediately, and quietly watched the big man who went to get the car walk away and disappear into the distance. Only then did he come out of the alley.
He strode swiftly through the empty streets, heading straight for the two men and one woman across the way, his hand in his backpack unconsciously tightening its grip on the knife.
The three people across the street saw him, but their eyes just swept over his body.
Xia Wenjie is very ordinary, with a medium build and a slender figure. His skin is fair and he looks young, so at first glance, it's clear that he's a student. Who would pay much attention to an ordinary student like him?
When he walked to the middle of the street, his hand came out of his backpack, and in his tightly grasped hand was a watermelon wrapped tightly in newspaper.
At this time, the bald man was chatting and laughing with the charming woman beside him, while another big man on the side smiled and occasionally interjected a few words.
None of the three had expected that the unassuming student, after approaching them, would suddenly thrust a stack of newspapers into the bald man's abdomen while letting out a loud yell.
But what Xia Wenjie didn't expect was that he thought he had used a lot of force, but the watermelon knife hidden in the newspaper hadn't even pierced the other person's body, and hadn't even pierced the wrapping paper.
The bald man slowly lowered his head, looking at the stack of newspapers on his belly, then he slowly raised his head and his gaze fell on Xia Wenjie's face. Without warning, he raised his hand and slapped Xia Wenjie in the face, shouting: "Fuck your mother!"
He slapped Xia Wenjie with all his might, sending him flying several feet away. He couldn't stand up straight and fell to the ground on his buttocks, dropping the watermelon knife in his hand.
His ears buzzed, half of his cheek was numb, even his brain stopped working, he sat on the ground motionless, as if he had been beaten silly, fresh blood flowed down from his nostrils and mouth corners.
Another big man came to his senses, walked quickly to the fallen newspaper, picked it up, felt heavy in his hand, and immediately tore open the newspaper. Only then did he see clearly that there was a watermelon knife hidden inside the newspaper.
"Second brother, look!" The big man hastily handed the watermelon knife to the bald-headed man. He took it over, looked at it for a few moments, then smiled, tilted his head, opened his mouth and licked the corner of his own mouth, holding the watermelon knife as he walked towards Xia Wenjie.
As he approached Xia Wenjie, the bald man raised his watermelon knife and tapped it on his head, laughing and scolding: "Damn you, little bastard wants to come and kill me, damn you, don't even look in the mirror"
"Listen up, I'm gonna teach you something today. A watermelon knife isn't for stabbing people, it's for chopping them!" As he spoke, he turned his head and shouted: "Dawei, hold down his hand for me, I want one of his hands today!"
"Haha!" A man named Dawei let out a strange laugh, swiftly pounced on Xia Wenjie, kicked him to the ground without warning, and pressed his knee against Xia's waist. At the same time, he pinned Xia's right hand firmly to the ground.
It wasn't until then that Xia Wenjie's consciousness returned to normal, he struggled desperately, trying to push away the big man who was pressing on his body, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't break free.
The bald man looked at Xia Wenjie's hand, the corner of his mouth rose, revealing a cruel and cold sneer. He raised the watermelon knife in his hand high, aimed at Xia Wenjie's wrist, and swung it down with all his might.
At this critical moment, two strong lights suddenly shot out from the street, and the light was so dazzling that the bald man couldn't open his eyes. Before he could react to what was happening, he heard a whistling sound coming from afar, getting closer and closer at an incredible speed.
"Second brother, be careful!" The big man who was originally pressing down on Xia Wenjie let out a strange cry and then used all his strength to rush forward, sending the bald-headed man flying far away.
The two of them rolled into a ball and fell to the side of the road. Just as they fell, a sedan came speeding over with its tires screeching and stopped at the spot where the bald man was standing just now.
As they stared at the car that suddenly appeared, both the bald man and his subordinates were stunned. Xia Wenjie, who had just sat up from the ground, was also stunned. Before he could even think, the car door suddenly opened, and a low voice came from inside: "Get in!"
Xia Wenjie looked up and glanced inside the car, stunned for a moment, then he used his hands and feet to crawl inside.
After he got on the car, the person in the car stepped on the accelerator and the sedan sped away with a loud roar.
"Damn it!" The bald man jumped up from the ground, staring at the sedan's receding figure, furious and shouting: "Fuck your mother! Don't run if you have the guts!"
Unfortunately, the sedan had already driven far away, and the people inside couldn't hear his curses.
Inside the sedan.
Xia Wenjie sat in the passenger seat, his face pale, panting heavily.
It was too dangerous just now. If the sedan had been a little later, this hand of mine would have been cut off by Jin Er alive.
Thinking of this, he hastily turned his head and looked at the driver, exclaiming in surprise: "How... how could it be you?"
"Happened to be passing by."
The driver looked over thirty, but due to good maintenance, his actual age was a bit older than he appeared. He wore a black suit, white shirt, no tie, and an open collar button, which made him look like any other office worker.
Xia Wenjie knew him, more accurately, had seen him before, but didn't know his name.
He is a regular at the bar opened by Xia Wenjie's brother, Xia Wenhao. Xia Wenjie often goes to his brother's bar and has seen this person many times. The reason he noticed him was that this person was very strange. In the bar, he always sat in the most corner position, which seemed to have become his exclusive seat. Moreover, he was always alone and only drank a bottle of beer.
Although I've seen him so many times, Xia Wenjie and he have never spoken, nor has he ever been seen talking to anyone. He's a very handsome and gentle-looking person, but the feeling he gives people is very cold, making it hard for others to get close to him.
He never dreamed that at his own moment of greatest danger, it was he who suddenly appeared and saved him.
"Don't you believe me?" Seeing Xia Wenjie staring blankly at himself, that person asked with a smile.
It was just like that, he was clearly smiling, but Xia Wenjie felt cold and icy, his smile was insincere, more like a mask.
"Why?" The man suddenly asked, changing his tone.
Xia Wenjie was stunned by his question and asked back in confusion: "What why?"
That man turned his head, his profound gaze fell on his face, stared at him for a moment, and then turned his head to look forward, saying slowly: "Why did those thugs have to deal with you so heavily?"
Xia Wenjie fell silent, and after a while, he said in a low voice: "Because I'm going to kill him."
"Why?"
