Chapter 58: Slave Market
"Master! Where are we going now?" Francis and his group walked on the main road of the imperial capital, where the road surface was made of stone slabs, making it very comfortable to walk.
Looking at the bustling scene, Francis really wanted to go for a walk, but thinking that her daughter was probably still hungry, she looked around and chose the largest restaurant nearby. "Let's just go there, let's eat something first! We didn't eat much earlier, you must be hungry too!"
"Hehe!" The three of them chuckled quietly, apparently recalling what had just happened.
Francis's face was a picture of embarrassment, and he let the others see the joke. The duke wouldn't investigate any further, and Francis decided to turn his sorrow into appetite and eat a big meal. "Let's go! Eat more today, don't save money for me!"
"Yes indeed, young master! Today will absolutely not be a day for saving money! Hehe!" Diester emphasized the two words 'young master'.
"What would you like to eat?" Francis asked as a few of them had just entered when a young servant ran over.
"Find us a good room with a view and make it a single!" Dais tossed a gold coin to the innkeeper.
"Ah! Several of you, upstairs please!" The young servant looked at Di's generosity and hastily welcomed them warmly.
"Where are we headed next, young master?" Eryndor Thorne sat down in his seat and poured a glass of water for each of them.
Francis gazed out the window at the flow of people, and indeed, the location was excellent, with a broad view. "Let's go buy some maps later, one for each of us. Today we've found a place to settle down, tomorrow we'll go look for a suitable estate, preferably close to the Magic Academy. We can buy it and live there afterwards! And then... first, let's buy some household items, and I should probably go take a look at the Magic Academy!"
"Is Mom going to school?" Dorothea asked suddenly, her mouth still full of the popcorn Francis had handed her.
"Yes! From now on, Mom might have to spend less time with you during the day!" Francis stroked Dolores' head and said softly.
"Why? Must I go to school?" Dorothea asked curiously.
"Because mom has a lot of things to learn!"
"And what about me? Do I have to go to school too?" Dorothea asked, pointing at herself.
"That's all right, you'll learn a lot of things by yourself later on!" Francis patted his daughter's head. She had her own tribal memories and traditions, and school was basically irrelevant to her!
"Knock knock knock!" A knocking sound was heard, and the servant pushed open the door and walked in. "A few guests, your dishes are ready!"
"Let's eat!" Deloris exclaimed happily. Francis looked at the varied dishes in front of him with great surprise, indeed worthy of the imperial capital! Even the quality of food was much better than other towns. Looking at Deloris devouring her food, Francis said to the servant, "Bring three more servings of this dish! And bring a few more fish dishes too!"
"Three... portions?" The young servant hesitated, wondering if he had misheard. The table was already almost full, and now three more portions were to be added - could these people eat that much?
"Hurry up! What's with all this nonsense? Get going!" Dis threw out a few gold coins impatiently, telling the young servant to speed up.
"Got it! You wait! Wait a minute!" The young servant took the money and went out, closing the door on his way.
"Does the master like eating fish now too?" Gaili pulled a plate of fish in front of himself and ate slowly.
"Not yet, not even giving you a little bit of it, this month hasn't heard you speak at all! You won't really become a cat now, will you?!" Francis looked at the small white cat in front of him, no matter how he looked, it was already impossible to associate with tigers.
"Master! I'll go ask around, where there's a suitable manor!" Eryndor Thorne had eaten his fill in just a few bites; he and Dis had never been picky about food, as long as they could eat their fill.
"Hmm! Be careful, don't stir up trouble, after all this is the Imperial Capital." Francis still felt more at ease with Aiolos.
Aiolos nodded and walked out.
"Right, Dis! Can you feel how many masters are in the Imperial Capital?" Francis suddenly thought that the old steward of the Du family was a Divine Rank, so there should be quite a few hidden masters in the Imperial Capital.
"It's impossible! At the Divine Stage, if we're not face to face, he can hide and I won't be able to find him. Moreover, the alchemy in this world has indeed exceeded my expectations, with many places blocking my Small Universe." Dis pointed his hand towards the window "My Small Universe can't probe over there!"
"Where is it? Is that the palace?" Francis followed Dis's pointing direction and looked far away, where a high city wall stood, but couldn't see what was inside.
"It should be!" Ai Ou Luo pushed open the door and walked in.
"So soon?" Francis was somewhat surprised.
"I asked the shopkeeper downstairs, and he told me to walk straight down this street, turn a corner, and go all the way to the end! I bought several maps from the shop downstairs!" Aeolus handed over the maps in his hand to Francis and the others.
"I want to see too!" Dorothea climbed into Francis' lap and looked at the map spread out in his hands.
"This imperial capital is quite large!" Francis roughly browsed through it, and the place just now was indeed the Imperial Palace. The Magic Academy was here, Francis saw on the map that the Royal Martial Magic Academy was located south of the Imperial Palace, far from the center of the imperial capital.
"We're here now!" said Aeolus, pointing at the map. "That's where the boss said it was!"
Francis looked in the direction Aiolos was pointing, and on the map he saw: Slave Market. Next to it were the Arena and Casino, apparently this was where the nobles of the Imperial City came to have fun.
"Slaves?" After all, this world is still feudal, how can there be no slaves...
"Hmm! The shopkeeper said that everything is sold here, because the slave trade is the most profitable, so everyone calls it a slave market!" Eryndor Thorne explained.
"Alright! Let's go take a look after dinner." Francis looked at the map in his hand, coming to this world without visiting the slave market would be a waste.
"Hey, young master! Want to buy some slaves?" Francis and his group had just arrived at the slave market when several people swarmed around them. As a result, they were knocked to the ground by Des. The surrounding crowd came and went, and those who had been knocked down got up and solicited customers elsewhere.
"It's quite lively! Let's go take a look at that one!" Francis pointed to a larger storefront and led Dice and the others inside.
"Several! I don't know what to call you?" A boss-like person saw Francis and several others walking in and hastily greeted them. At a glance, he saw that Francis, who was walking in front, was the master of these people, but since Francis had a hat on his head, he didn't dare speak up.
"Our young master wants to buy a manor in the Imperial Capital!" Eriol said to the boss.
"Ah, Manor, you've come to the right place! This humble shop may not be impressive in other aspects, but when it comes to matters of this land! I dare to guarantee that there's no second household in the entire empire that can compare to this one!..." The boss, hearing that Francis wanted to buy the manor, knew a big shot had arrived and hastened to boast.
"Alright, don't say any more! The location must be near the Mo Wu Academy." Di's direct interruption startled Boss with his fierce gaze.
"Alright! A few of you come in, I'll introduce a few places to you. I'll go get something first." The boss said and let the young servant lead Francis and several others into a lavishly decorated reception room, while he went to fetch some materials.
"Look! These several estates are in line with your meaning!" The boss handed over a few documents, which had the information of the estates.
"Alright, this one!" Francis looked at them for a while, compared them, and chose the one that was slightly closer to the college.
"Ha ha!" The boss's eyes narrowed into slits, this estate wasn't cheap. "Young master, the price of this estate is..."
"Aiolos, pay up!" Francis said casually, he himself didn't know how much money he had now, even if he bought this whole store, it wouldn't cost him much.
"Alright! You, please go outside and pay the bill." The boss said, and then the little servant led Aiolos out.
"This young master, the rooms inside are all new, we have people cleaning them regularly, you can move in and live right away!" The boss looked at Francis wrapped in a white robe with drooling mouth, this is simply a rich man! "This young master, I don't know if you want to buy some slaves?"
"Slaves?" Francis frowned, he wasn't too keen on these things, having hands and feet of his own, yet couldn't even take care of himself?
"Ah! Young master, you don't need to do some serving tea and water, making the bed, and guarding the house. You can just buy a few slaves for that! If you hire servants, you won't be at ease when you go out!" The boss's words moved Francis.
"Taking care of the house!" Francis glanced at Dis and Saber, as well as Dolores holding Gari in her arms. These people can't even take care of themselves, let alone buy anything useful.
"Ah! Guarding the house requires quite a few experts, I have many high-ranking warriors here. These people are intimidating even when walking on the street with you! You should..." The boss said hastily, seeing Francis's hesitant look.
"No need! I don't need anyone to look after the house except if you have a master above the divine level!" Francis directly refused.
"Look what you're saying, where can we find a strong God-level warrior?" The boss smiled wryly, it seemed Francis was not going to buy some slave warriors. "Heh heh! Young master, how about these tea-serving and bed-warming girls? These maids serve tea during the day and can warm beds at night..." The boss looked at Francis with a knowing glance that only men would understand.
"Ahem!" Francis coughed twice, suddenly feeling a chill on his back. The boss also had two drops of sweat trickle down his forehead as the blonde girl across from him gave him a cold, murderous stare that made his legs tremble slightly.
"Master, here are the deeds to the land and house!" Eryndor Thorne walked in from outside the door, pulled out the documents, and handed them over to Francis, just in time to break the awkward atmosphere. Saber also closed his eyes and withdrew his killing intent.
"Aiolos, you're really bad at timing!" Dais said lazily, Aiolos had appeared just in time to interrupt his fun.
"Aiolos looked at Dais strangely, what happened?"
