The catalogue to a statement exhibiton by Pontus Hulten, which heralded his era-defining tenure as head curator of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. The book has four sections, each formatted as its own distinct exhibition catalog. The first three sections are historical, devoted to pioneering figures of 20th century avant-garde: Kasimir Malevich, Naum Gabo, and Yves Klein. The fourth is devoted to work by 35 contemporary artists whose work built upon these forerunners, including work by Josef Albers, Max Bill, Enrico Castellani, Lucio Fontana, Donald Judd, Yayoi Kusama, Heinz Mack, Piero Manzoni, Robert Morris, Robertt Rauschenberg, Ad Reinhardt and Frank Stella.
