Chapter 20: Operation Goryeo 4
Section 1
After daybreak, Li Wei got up with everyone else, walked out of the shed, and when he was getting breakfast, someone suddenly whispered in his ear:
"I know what you've done..."
Li Wei's heart suddenly tightened, thinking that he had been discovered and must get rid of this person immediately, before he could inform the North Korean soldiers.
"If you don't agree to take me and my family with you when you escape, I'll report you!"
The monk took a deep breath, nodded at the person who was speaking and Li Wei, whose heart had almost jumped out of his throat. He looked at that person, then at the monk. The monk hinted to him to keep an eye on this person, and Li Wei understood that if this person dared to reveal their secret, he would be done for.
While working, the monk and Li Wei took advantage of going to the toilet or occasionally working together to secretly make plans. The monk also had a few more clandestine communications with the North Korean - telling him a small part of the plan and warning him that if he didn't keep it secret, they would all die. The North Korean was very cooperative and willing to go along with it, after all, no one wanted to stay in a place where death could come at any moment.
The monk told him to find a few extremely reliable people to cooperate with the action, and to be extremely careful, or else everything would be ruined. This North Korean deeply believed in them and couldn't help but admire and sigh at how formidable the monk and Li Wei were. The monk introduced himself to him, his name was Shin Dong-hyuk, and he also told him some secret signals, saying that they would take action tonight, and he was excited beyond measure.
The monk spoke with him one last time when he reminded him again to be careful, or else it would mean death for them. He nodded vigorously in agreement. Everything was ready, all they needed was the cover of night. The monk, Li Wei, Shin Dong-hyuk, each person worked diligently, more seriously than usual.
The monk was calm and composed, just like an ordinary person, from head to toe, he exuded a sense of ease and confidence. He had a plan in his mind, he was extremely confident, and the word "failure" did not exist in his dictionary or Buddhist scriptures.
Li Wei was nervous, he wasn't afraid of failure or danger, he believed in the monk's ability, he knew that with the monk around, this escape would definitely succeed. His only concern was how to kill someone, how to face killing someone, was it really just a matter of pulling the trigger and swinging a knife? After killing someone, after getting out, would he be at peace afterwards? How would he face himself? For survival, for going home, for the mission, he could only steel himself and do it.
Korean Shin Dong-hyuk, a five-flavor miscellaneous mixture. Because of his father's political views, the whole family was implicated, and his father had already been tortured to death. His mother, he, and his younger siblings were still being held here, suffering inhuman torture. His mother and sister suffered humiliation, and he himself was battered and bruised all over. Tonight, they must escape, even if it means risking their own lives. They must let the family escape, no matter what!
Li Wei felt that this day was so long, truly a year in a day, the scorching sun just wouldn't set, every minute and every second were so long, he wanted to scream, he wanted to vent, he wanted... but he couldn't do anything, could only wait... wait... wait...
Section 2
The silent black night has been summoned, with the arrival of the black night, some anxious people are secretly passing on something, this information is worth every life to defend. Originally, Shen Dongxu only informed a few familiar and reliable people, but those familiar people also had reliable acquaintances who couldn't put down, friends also had reliable friends to inform, relatives still had relatives who couldn't leave, gradually many people knew about the action. These people can't sleep at night, praying, looking forward to, anxiously waiting, tossing and turning, waiting until the grass under their feet rustled...
The night grew darker, this evening's sky was especially dark, as if to help those in deep suffering: the dogs stopped barking, the birds stopped chirping, the wind stopped blowing, everything was waiting for He Shang and Li Wei to set off. The stone-made knife and wooden dagger seemed to have come to life, waiting for the moment when life would burst forth with radiance, hoping to fulfill their own value. Tonight's dark night was destined to be terrifying, tonight someone would surely die. The terrible darkness tolled a silent funeral bell, step by step approaching, the scythe of death danced in the night sky, waiting to reap fresh blood and souls.
As the monk gave a slight push, the action finally began. Li Wei took a deep breath, flipped over and stood up, following the monk to crawl out. The monk and Li Wei sneaked into the prison cell like ghosts in the dark night. A few crisp sounds came from the monk's hands, and Li Wei knew that someone had died. This was the first time Li Wei saw someone being killed, and he didn't even make a sound. Li Wei hadn't taken action, but just watching from the side made him feel conflicted. The monk found two sets of North Korean military uniforms and handed one to Li Wei. The two quickly changed into them, with their hats pulled very low. The monk made a throat-slitting gesture, and the two walked towards the door. Li Wei knew that this time he had to kill someone. Even if the monk was skilled, he couldn't silently take down two people at once. Li Wei continued to breathe deeply as the monk pushed open the door. Two soldiers standing guard were taken aback, then said:
"It's not time yet, how can you..."
Monk Li Wei and the other person almost simultaneously took action, covering their mouths and slitting their throats in one swift motion. These few seconds felt slow to Li Wei, the sound of his trachea being cut open stimulating his eardrums, hot blood spraying out, so bright red and vibrant that even the darkness couldn't conceal it. The smell of blood wafted through the air, spreading everywhere. Li Wei stiffly dragged the corpse back into the cell, his mind a complete blank.
"Are you okay?"
"It doesn't matter."
"Then let's continue."
The monk Li Wei rushed towards cell B, jumped onto the roof as if it were flat ground, and after landing, the monk continued to twist and turn like he was wringing out a big radish, killing the North Korean soldiers. Li Wei stood there stupidly, until the last "radish" was twisted, then the two of them walked back towards the door, cut their throats again, dragged the corpses back into the cell, rushed towards the ninja's cell door, and pried it open. The ninja had already opened his shackles and was waiting. The three of them walked out of the cell together, and Li Wei asked:
"Will you open the remaining prison gate?"
"Let Seon Dong-hyuk's people come and rescue us later. We'll take the ninja out first. We have to get rid of the remaining North Korean soldiers in the camp immediately."
Three people walked to the door, and the monk let the ninja wait here first, then took Li Wei out to solve the remaining soldiers in the cell and the wooden tower.
Perhaps it was because they hadn't faced danger in a long time, or perhaps these soldiers were too young and inexperienced, but they silently fell into the hands of Monk Li Wei. After taking down all the soldiers inside the concentration camp, Monk Li Wei led the ninja to storm the heavy weapons room, using the night cat's cry to lure out Shendong Xuan's men to pick up their weapons. Under the guidance of the ninja, Monk Li Wei disabled all the components of the nuclear warhead. The two then brought high explosives and bombs to place in various locations - three prisons, four walls were all set with explosives and bombs, timed to explode at a specific time. Monk Li Wei informed Shendong Xuan of the explosion time and location, telling him to rescue as many people as possible from the blast site during this time, warning him not to enter Prison A under any circumstances. After the explosion, they would lead the crowd in escaping through the gaps in the walls, with armed young men covering for the elderly, children, and women. The two of them would take care of the North Korean army barracks outside the front gate of the concentration camp. Then, Monk Li Wei and the ninja, fully armed, moved rocket launchers and other portable heavy weapons into the only vehicle inside the concentration camp. Monk Li Wei gripped the steering wheel tightly, while Li Wei held a rocket launcher aimed at the gate, waiting for the explosion to sound before charging out.
Tick... tock... tick... tock... tick... tock... tick... tock...... In Li Wei's mind, it was as if a countdown timer was ticking away, the tension was extreme, everyone held their breath, waiting for the explosion to start, the countdown of hell echoed in every person's heart, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1......0.9, 0.8, 0.7...
Boom! Boom boom!! Boom......
As the first loud explosion sounded, Li Wei launched a rocket tube and the iron gate was blown out. The North Korean soldiers on guard were killed on the spot. He Shang drove into the camp, rushing left and right, and the North Korean soldiers who had never experienced war before were stunned by the huge explosion. Some people cried without wearing clothes, holding guns, while others shouted: "Is it a South Korean air raid? Is it a battle? Help!" Li Wei launched a barrage of fire at the camp, destroying all vehicles and tanks. The barracks were completely destroyed. The successful surprise attack made it impossible for the officers to organize an effective defense, and the communication equipment was also thoroughly destroyed. Except for waiting for rescue, the North Korean officers had no other way out. He Shang and Li Wei gave the people in the camp enough time to escape and provided cover for them. They could no longer bear to slaughter these child soldiers and immediately retreated from the camp and fled.
After driving recklessly for a while, they abandoned their heavy equipment and vehicle. If they continued to drive, there was a possibility of encountering the reinforcement troops from North Korea. They avoided main roads and took mountain paths. Given the magnitude of the incident, the North Korean military would definitely heavily surround and blockade this area. Therefore, it was crucial to contact people from the company or the Chinese embassy as soon as possible to ensure their safety. Wearing North Korean military uniforms, they traversed mountains and hid whenever they saw signs of troops, only continuing on when it was safe. The area was too desolate, with not even food to be found. They trekked for two days and nights with empty stomachs, using the sun to determine direction and relying on instinct to search for signs of a city.
Section 3
When the monk and ninja appeared on the outskirts of a city in North Korea, they had been starving for three days and three nights. It was unbelievable that not even birds or squirrels were seen during these three days and three nights. Li Wei felt like his eyes were green from hunger, as if even wild fruits didn't exist in this desolate mountainous area. He began to miss the dry corn stalks from the concentration camp. These three people, who were poorer than beggars, were on their last breath. Seeing the city was like seeing a glimmer of light in the darkness, and they seemed to gain a lot of energy. Li Wei quickened his pace, searching for food, while the monk put down the ninja and sat on the side of the road to rest. The monk panted heavily, finally feeling safe, and suddenly lay down on the ground, laughing loudly...
