Out of tens of thousands of candidates, I, the son of a humble tailor have been selected to become the personal scribe for His Royal Highness Ventian Aurelius, Crown Prince of the Amaranthine Plains, Lord Protector of the People, Archduke of the Sering Marshes, Sorcerer of the Eighth Ring, Bearer of the Sword of Livorian, Slayer of Igor the Terrible and Esteemed Scholar of the Imperial College. I acknowledge this great privilege bestowed upon me and so solemnly pledge that I will do my utmost best to record the deeds of His Royal Highness in their full glory.
